WikiLeaks ‘Collateral Murder’ update
“I was writing about surgical procedures developed because local doctors were treating wounds caused by slow (hard rubber) and high (full metal jacket) velocity bullets; and, what it’s like for families living in the Falls Road area.
“I was walking to the Royal (hospital) with a long camera lens in a leather container slung over my shoulder. A heavily protected British Army vehicle screamed to a halt beside me. A squaddy leapt out and ordered my hands into the air while another in the cab pointed a rifle at my head. They thought the long lens was some kind of weapon. I was praying a car didn’t backfire. So even in those days (the 80s) troops were mistaking camera gear for lethal weapons.”
